How every discount group works

The rules of the discount group

No fine print, no surprises. These are the standing rules every buyer and every seller agrees to before money moves. The same rules apply to every discount group on VolumeVillage.

Buyer rules

What you agree to when you join a discount group — and what you are always entitled to.

01

One membership per household, per discount group

Join once with a small refundable deposit. Duplicate memberships from the same household are merged or refunded — they never count twice toward the ladder.

02

Your deposit is a promise, not a payment

The deposit is held, never spent, while the discount group is open. It tells the seller the group is real. It is refunded in full if the discount group doesn't run, if you withdraw before closing, or if you decline the final price.

03

Confirm your scope before you commit

After the winning bid is chosen you receive a scope confirmation with the final price and any add-ons. Nothing is charged beyond your deposit until you accept it in writing.

04

Be reachable and be ready

When the seller schedules, confirm within the window stated on your discount group. A missed appointment without notice can forfeit scheduling priority.

05

Pay on completion, not before

The balance is due when the work is done and you've had a chance to inspect it. No seller on VolumeVillage may demand full payment up front.

06

Rate honestly

After completion you rate the seller. Ratings are permanent, public on the seller's record, and drive who wins future discount groups.

Seller rules

What a seller agrees to before they may place a single bid.

01

Verify before you bid

Licence, insurance, tax details and identity are checked by the coordinator before any bid is accepted. Expired documents suspend bidding automatically.

02

One bid per discount group — make it your best

A seller places one bid per discount group: one price, one warranty, one lead time. You may replace your bid while the discount group is open, but you can never stack multiple offers or bid against yourself.

03

The price you bid is the price you charge

Your bid covers the full standard scope listed on the discount group. Add-ons must be priced on the discount group's add-on list — no surprise line items after the award.

04

Honour the ladder

If the discount group closes at a lower tier than you bid, the lower tier price is the price. You are bidding for the whole committed group, and the group price applies to every member.

05

Serve every member, not just the easy ones

Winning a discount group means serving every member who accepted their scope, inside the lead time you bid, across the discount group's stated area.

06

Rate your buyers and keep records

After each job you rate the buyer on access, communication and readiness. This two-way record keeps both sides honest.

Pricing limits

Group buying only works if the discount is real and bounded. These limits are fixed.

The ladder is fixed before anyone joins

Every discount group's price steps are set when the discount group opens — from retail price down to a published floor. Nobody, buyer or seller or VolumeVillage, can move the ladder after the first member joins.

A hard floor on every discount group

The deepest tier cannot drop below the discount group's floor price. The floor keeps bids honest: sellers price for volume, not for a bait price they can't honour at full scope.

Everyone pays the lowest unlocked tier

If the discount group unlocks a lower tier after you joined, your price drops too. No early-joiner penalty, ever.

The cheapest live offer is flagged

When two sellers run discount groups for the same category, the best current rate is labelled on the browse page so buyers can compare like for like.

Deposit rules

  • Deposits are small, fixed per category, and identical for every member of a discount group.
  • Held in a separate balance until you accept the final price — then credited against it.
  • Refunded automatically if the discount group fails to reach its minimum, or on any withdrawal before closing.
  • Refundable after closing until you accept your scope confirmation — after acceptance, the discount group's stated cancellation terms apply.
  • Buyers never pay VolumeVillage a fee. The winning seller pays the platform fee, only when the deal closes.

Fulfilment, step by step

From deposit to payout, every discount group follows the same nine steps. You can see which step your discount group is on from your dashboard.

01

Join

A buyer joins a discount group with a refundable deposit and accepts the deposit agreement for that discount group.

02

Sellers bid

Verified sellers place one bid each against the discount group's fixed scope while the discount group is open.

03

Discount group closes

On the closing date the ladder locks at the lowest unlocked tier. Discount groups under their minimum refund every deposit automatically.

04

Winning bid is awarded

The coordinator awards the discount group to the best verified bid — price, warranty, lead time and seller record all count, not price alone.

05

Scope confirmation

Each member receives a scope confirmation: the final tier price, the standard scope, and any priced add-ons they selected.

06

Purchase order

When a member accepts, a purchase order is issued to the seller. The deposit is credited against the balance.

07

Work is scheduled and done

The seller completes each job inside the lead time they bid. The member pays the balance on completion, after inspection.

08

Both sides rate

The buyer rates the seller; the seller rates the buyer. Both records are permanent and shape future awards.

09

Payout with holdback

The seller is paid out minus a holdback, released after the work checks out. An open dispute pauses the affected payout until it's resolved.

Disputes

Something wrong with an order? Open a dispute from your disputes page and the payout on that job is held while the coordinator reviews. Buyers and sellers both get to state their case in writing.
